Barbie’s Birthday in Russia

Barbie, the American icon and every little girl’s best friend, turned 50 this year. Though the party began back in February with Stila’s new “Four Decades of Beauty” make-up cans and continued with Barbie-inspired pieces from over 50 designers at Fashion Week, the year isn’t over yet. Following exhibits and store openings in Paris and Shanghai, Barbie’s celebration has now reached Moscow, where an exhibition of the doll in designer looks opened last week.

The show, held at the Cara&Co. concept store, combines the looks of 50 foreign designers with the outfits of talented Russian designers like Vika Gazinskaya and Slava Zaitsev. Though Barbie didn’t make her Russian debut until recently (post-USSR), many of these designers have drawn inspiration from her iconic style. So here’s to Barbie’s 50th and much more excitement to come.
