If you are creative, the best place to seek inspiration is at a gathering with other artists. Artomatic, a month-long community art festival in Washington, DC, offers the opportunity to do just that. Visual and performing artists from all over come together for installations, concerts, theatre, and special events. The culmination of the festival is the Art in Fashion Show, which takes place this year on Friday, July 3, 2009.

The event, like a carnival, brings together many forms of indie art (not just fashion) and encourages attendee participation. Models walk the runway in costume and creative fashion, sure, but drag, body paint, piercing, and tattoo art are also part of the deal. The public is asked to bring their creativity to their own attire. The theme for this year’s 10th Anniversary show is Celestial Bodies.
