Real Style: Audrey Rogers, Durham UK

By Hanna Kim • Oct 30th, 2008 • Category: Style

Audrey Rogers is one of The Supermelon’s contributors. The English Lit major with a passion for fashion finds time to write for various publications, update her entertaining fashion blog befrassy.com, and constantly creates looks that are uniquely her own! Audrey is overflowing with creativity and one only needs to visit her blog to get an idea (or inspiration). She mixes things up with vintage finds, bold accessories, and uses fashion as a way of self-expression.

Describe your look.
My look is eclectic, like a cocktail with a shot of every kind of alcohol. My primary love is vintage but I also wear a lot of thrift shop finds. If I had to narrow it down to one word, I would definitely describe my style as bohemian. I frequently wear “roughed up” styles a la Kate Moss or Erin Wasson. Pendants, layers and blazers are the key components to most of my outfits—and I have a weakness for paisley prints, leggings and old leather bags.

What inspires you?
That is a big question, as so much seems to inspire me these days! Firstly, there is Lookbook and photography from fellow bloggers: they have inspired many of most original fashion statements. Vogue and i-D magazine are my bibles—all of my issues are bookmarked like crazy with post-it notes! I also am compiling an ongoing “Inspiration Book,” which includes anything and everything that evokes creativity: magazine clippings, song lyrics, a leaf I found on the street, or a poem.

Where are your favourite places to shop in London?
London is an exhilarating place to shop. Like most girls, I love the overwhelmingly huge Topshop on Oxford Street, especially the vintage floor. Spitalfields Market is a great place to find jewellery and bags. Beyond Retro in Soho is probably one of my most treasured places to shop; the clothes are so quirky and eccentric, and their clothes are organized by colour, which is cool. Two other musts are Oxfam and Primark and while they might not be Harrods, they are brimming with bargains!

Style Icons?
Sienna Miller has been my style crush for a long time. I love her mismatching: she takes popular trends and puts a personal twist on them. Kate Moss, Edie Sedgwick (Warhol’s muse from the 60’s), and Keira Knightly are also wonderfully fashionable.

Can’t live without…
Bottled Water, Carmex, my agenda and SLR Camera

Favourite places to visit?
Paris is the city of my soul so I go there as often as I can. I love fashion and modern art exhibits as well as huge, bustling markets. I am definitely a city girl, and I constantly crave the city atmosphere. Without sounding too shallow, I adore shopping and especially enjoy quirky, eccentric shops. However where I live, in a small university town, my favourite places would have to be the massive library or the Botanical Gardens.

When did you become interested in fashion?
I was twelve years old and no longer had to wear a uniform at school. I remember my mother taking me to Zara, and suddenly I was enlightened to this huge world of pretty things. I think my first “fashion buy” was a pair of bright pink corduroy flared trousers! As I matured, fashion became a tool; one that allowed creativity, originality and most importantly, self-expression.

What is a typical weekend like for you?
I often go out on a Friday night, so Saturday mornings usually involve sleep, tea and magazines. I’m studying English Literature, so most of my time is dedicated to that: I do a lot of reading and writing! Sundays, I’ll go to the gym, hang out with my housemates, see my boyfriend and have a long bath before bed- I have a 9am seminar on Monday mornings, so I have to go to bed early!
