Real Style: Hanna & Rosanna, Edinburgh & Manila
By Jenna Fain • Feb 27th, 2009 • Category: Style
Hanna Choa Yu and Rosanna Aranaz prove that when it comes to friendship and style, distance can’t keep them apart. The dynamic duo’s blog, Little Miss Dress-Up, has quickly become a lens through which to follow how their diverse styles evolve. Hanna’s ladylike silhouettes always look so fresh, timeless, and put together, while we give major props to Rosanna for her adventurous ensembles.
How did you meet and start Little Miss Dress-Up?
We went to the same primary/secondary school so we’ve known each other forever …although we started having a closer friendship in university. We started Little Miss Dress Up a little less than a year ago out of sheer boredom without realizing how big of an impact it would have in our lives. It’s such a good way to keep in touch with each other and communicate our style to a wider audience.
What are the similarities and differences between your styles?
Rosanna is more adventurous and experimental with her style, while Hanna tends to go with what works for her and sticks with it.
What are some of your favorite online style destinations?
TheSupermelon (but of course!), The Sartorialist, Karla’s Closet, Sea of Shoes, Fashion Toast, and Teen Vogue.
What spring trends will you be embracing?
Hanna is excited for sheer, asymmetrical, interesting cuts for pants. Rosanna is on the hunt for the perfect “little white dress”, pantsuits, and the whole 80s revival.

You go to school in Edinburgh. What are your favorite aspects of Scottish life? What are you studying?
This is a toughie! I hate whiskey, haggis, and fried mars bars. And I’m not the biggest fan of bagpipes or tartan either. I do, however, love how the Scotts embrace Christmas! I’m in my third year doing Politics-International Relations.
What’s hanging in your dream closet?
Everything that’s hanging in Daphne Guinness’ closet. I salivate whenever I see pictures of all her couture and fabulous jewelry…though I’m not entirely sure if having her clothes is good for my health. I think I’ll die of a heart attack every time I open my dream closet.

You love vintage shops! What are some of your luckiest finds?
Yes, j’adore charity shops! There’s just something about wearing an item that someone else has previously loved. My luckiest find is definitely a lace cardigan dress that I found in a store bin for £2. I’ve been wearing it almost every week! When I love something, I really wear it to death and couldn’t care less if people think I only have five things in my wardrobe.

What’s the style scene like in Manila? How has it influenced the evolution of your style?
I love how the style scene in Manila is still evolving and that more people are becoming more interested in fashion. It’s such an exciting time for the local fashion industry, because Filipinos who were once only interested in foreign brands are finally taking a look at local designers and talent. Since Filipinos have become more open-minded when it comes to fashion, I’ve become more adventurous and experimental about the way I dress.
What are you seriously coveting right now?
Fur (but obviously, since I live in a very tropical country, it’s ridiculous of me to even consider it haha), this fitted floral blazer from the Topshop website, but it isn’t sold locally
, big, imposing rings, and anything covered in sequins.

What decade of fashion do you most admire? Who is your style icon?
I’ve always loved the very feminine approach of 1930s-40s fashion and the edgy looks of the mod vs. rocker subculture in the 60s, but lately I’ve been loving the trashy 80s! As for my style icons, I love the quirky style of Alexa Chung and Lou Doillon, I will always ALWAYS have a soft spot for The Olsen Twins, and I would kill to be a chic as the French Voguettes. But the style icons that I find the most inspiring are other fashion bloggers or those individuals captured by street style photographers. I love seeing their unique takes on everyday fashion!

Wow, amazing that you put Lou Doillon as a style icon, I believe she is very cool and chic and dresses without any doubt superbly. She has a clothing range with Lee Cooper that is very cool. At the moment there is a 30% off sale at their site http://www.leecooper-online.com . Well worth a visit!
