Real Style: Jessica Yorkin, L.A.

Your look? My style changes all the time; some days I feel like being simple, but mostly I’m a mix of a little bohemian and whimsical, yet with some avant-garde (or so I hope!).
Inspiration? So many things inspire me, from a feather to an image of a fairy, to a garden of flowers. I love Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt from French Vogue; they are such style inspirations. Also, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are so innovative - I love seeing what they come up with.
Current obsessions? Right now, I am in love with my Balenciaga tie-dye gladiators and white Alaïa dress. I also recently made some feathered headbands which I’ve been wearing nonstop! For fall, I love the Balmain and Givenchy collections. And Yves Saint Laurent, too! And Marc Jacobs! Style.com is pretty much my bible. I recently purchased Balmain’s moccasin heels and I’m excited to wear those. I’m searching for a vintage floral dress to pair them with!
Grooving to? The Weepies, Ben Kweller, Katy Perry, Alanis Morissette’s new album, The New Pornographers, Jack Johnson, Silversun Pickups… I could go on and on.
Most beloved finds? My 1/2-shaded Chanel sunnies, lace-up Balenciaga boots, leather jackets, Alaïa pieces, my emerald vintage “evil eye” ring and a lucite evening bag from the 1920’s.
You may not know… I bought my 1/2-shaded Chanel sunglassesfor a few hundred bucks a year before the Olsens or Nicole Richie did and now they go for thousands on EBay. I will never sell mine! Each season, I select the specific pieces I love and I do my best to stick to a budget. I just got back from seeing the couture shows in France and I had such a terrific time! I got to chat with Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt, which was a dream. I was more excited about that than meeting any celebrity! Fashion is so creative and such an amazing outlet. I make a gigantic inspiration board every season with what inspires me.

It’s not about criticism - this is supposed to be a feature for people who love fashion….in ALL its variations. Why try to bring others down? It should be fun, positive, and highlight different styles. Style is a direct expression of self - its so personal, that if you rip apart someone’s - it’s just plain mean. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

I’ve followed Real Style for a while now and I have some things to say. I understand that plain mean things are unforbidden and it’s nasty to bring someone down just because of jealousy or something, but it would be nice that people undesrstood that not everyone like the same things. Some might think wearing lots of designers is stupid and uptight and that’s their opinion. And expressing your opinion should be allowed too. And I mean this in general, not only when it comes to Real Style section. I read this article before the comments were removed but I hadn’t had the change to leave one myself, but honesty I didn’t see any really mean things. They were just harmless opinions. I have a blog myself and I have had to learn to deal with critisism, so I know what I’m talking about. It’s just childish to remove all comments that don’t say “OMG I love you you look gorgeous omg omg”, you know?
Anyway, I thing she has great style, hope to see her more!
