Real Style: Taghrid Chaaban, L.A.

By Jenna Fain • Aug 28th, 2008 • Category: Style

Taghrid is the poster girl for rough and raw L.A. style. Even if her look is more refined, her ensembles always have an edge that make her stand out from the crowd. She’s not afraid to try out daring materials or bold patterns. Best of all, Taghrid embraces her inner femme fatale, something that every girl wishes she could do with equal gusto. Amen, sister!

Your look: It is comprised of a hodgepodge of girlyness, vintage, and trashy-turned-appropriate pieces. I’ve got a weird habit of getting dressed from the feet up and base every outfit around the shoe. I don’t really try to maintain any specific silhouette, but I’m naturally attracted to dresses and skirts. I really like to create a contrast in my outfits by mixing frilly patterns and textures with leathers or lamé. I also like to take what would normally be considered stripper-esque, tame it, and conform it to my good girl lifestyle.

Inspiration? My biggest source of inspiration lies within other people. I am an explorer and observer, and I think humans are just so interesting to watch. I often find inspiration by others’ demeanors, stories and outfits. Flowers, movies, cartoons, and art are also sources of inspiration for me.

Currently coveting? Chanel Flap Bag from Fall 08/09 pre-collection and lots & lots of lacy stockings and tights for winter.

Grooving to? I have a weird CD in my car right now that has Scars On Broadway, Staind, Rilo Kiley, and The Beach Boys all on it. My taste in music is random!

Most beloved finds? Navy blue vintage backless cut-out dress and my vintage “happy diamonds” watch.

Favorite haunts? When I am with my friends, we usually hang out at hookah bars. When I am alone I like to bury myself in the corner of the bookstore reading all the current magazines or browsing through photography books. My favorite places to shop are Nordstrom, Forever 21, vintage and thrift stores (namely Aaardvarks Odd Ark), and amazon.com.

You may not know… I am a vegetarian, I graduated college at 20 years old, I hate ironing, and I am addicted to tea (with the exception of the blistering summer season, I drink at least 4 cups a day).

  2. Not into her look at all, especially her descriptions of it. Her look leans on the white trash aspect if you ask me, nothing special.

  3. Taghrid’s blog is one of my favorites! I find her style really inspirational–she takes daring pieces and makes them look completely wearable. So far from white trash. She takes risks and it’s admirable!

  4. No, White trash, it’s her face, just as ugly as the clothing! *barfs*

  5. I don’t think personal digs are very relevant, Alison. This is about looking at people’s style, so just stick to that rather than making unneccesarily hurtful comments. And anyway, I can’t see any truth in what you just said.

I think Taghrid has such an inspiration sense of style, there is somehting very fresh about it amongst a sea of others who these days seem to favour basics, I love her flashes of experimentation.

  6. I agree, Stevie. If you don’t have anything nice to say, Alison, don’t say anything at all. I like Taghrid’s funky ways of piecing her look together. She comes up with some pretty keen ideas too! :) Congrats, T! <3

  10. i cant get over the face. why does she always look so sour? id focus more on the clothes if she didnt look so unpleasant with her off-putting (in a bad way) pout.

  11. ahh, alison, tibby, dayna.
your ignorant comments make me chuckle.
i betchu if someone said that about your style,
you’d get all defensive and bitch. right?

lay off taghrid. there’s no exact defintion of “normal” and what’s appropriately cool.
people have different styles and you don’t have to like it.
and comments about people’s appearance. that’s just a low blow.

do everyone nowadays have to look like barbie? i bet you dont.

    idiots.

  12. i think tahgrid’s style is great- sweet and edgy, and reaching different levels of femininity that are not conventional, but oh so cool. The ensembles look unique and personal.
oh, and i never understand comments that slam- whats the point? its true that we r all entitled 2 our opinions, but come on, some of the nasty previous comments just imply tasteless bitchiness and probably jealousy on the part of those who made the comments. i think most people would agree she’s gorgeous- beautiful facial features and hair.
