Party Like a Polar Bear

New Yorkers have a new reason to bundle up and celebrate winter, polar bear style. The American Museum of Natural History has opened a state-of-the art ice rink overlooking the adjoining Rose Center for Earth and Space. Just as novel as the rink’s location is its use of synthetic ice; though artificial, the ice-like surface has been developed to accommodate smooth skating. More importantly, it is highly sustainable as it is made of 100% recycled material and does not require refrigeration to maintain, saving a significant amount of energy. The rink can accommodate up to 200 skaters circling round its 17-foot polar bear centerpiece for one hour sessions.

On top of the winter wonderland decor, no ice skating experience would be complete without a cup of hot cocoa. For a chance to warm your numbing nose and fingers (as well as your tummy) glide over to the rink side Polar Café, which serves warm beverages along with other tasty treats (who can resist a chocolate pressed panini, Nutella and Raspberry spread on a chocolate brioche?).
