Our Hands are Tied

Friendship bracelets and crafty knotted wristbands often bring up images of summer camp, granola hippies, hemp festivals, and Kabbalah. As it turns out, many designers and retailers have taken these ideas in new, chic directions. We never thought a piece of rope tied around our wrist could be cute, but when you add things like colors, chains and charms, it can become about the cutest new accessories trend we’ve seen in a while.

Take Teen Vogue editor Mary Kate Steinmiller’s handmade goodies—she began with the same technique as a basic friendship bracelet and weaved in chains and more diverse fabrics and colors. The Urban Outfitters variation consists of only two different materials but looks incredibly chic.

We also love the idea behind the Wear Your Music guitar string bracelets: You can choose between “fashion bracelets,” which are basic guitar string bracelets in a color of your choice; or “artist bracelets,” which are made upon order out of guitar strings used by your favorite artists. Profits are donated to charities selected by the artists. Give back and look good? We can’t think of anything better.

  2. But did they honestly ever disappear? Maybe the strings were covered up by massive collections of bangles but I feel like it was always there.
